Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know the workman at my door is genuine?

  • If you have a peephole check to see who the person is before answering, if not put on the chain before you open the door to anyone you do not know.
  • If the person claims to to be from an electricity, gas, or water company then they will have official identification.

  • If you are still not happy ring the company to verify they are the person they claim to be. ALWAYS use the number from the phone book, not the one on their card or one they give to you as this might not be part of the scam.

  • If you have any doubts DON'T let them in, it is better to be safe than sorry. You can always then ring the company and re-arrange a visit for another day.

  • Be wary of cold callers. NEVER allow a person to carry out work on your house, garden, roof, drive or anywhere else without getting at least two or three quotes from different reputable firms.

  • If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. There have been cases of people quoting a low price, carrying out the job and then demanding more money. There are also cases of the workman offering to drive the person down to the bank to get the money, which is often at a vastly inflated price.

  • Try to only use workmen who have been personally recommended to you.
